UPDATE: Peskov: Talks on nationalization of Russian assets inadmissible

(Rewrites story)

MOSCOW/ BERLIN, Apr 1 (PRIME) -- Nationalization of subsidiaries of Russian gas giant Gazprom and oil major by Germany will violate international law seriously, and the Kremlin sees such a discussion inadmissible, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday.

“There is no doubt that such a plan will infringe international law badly and absolutely all existing rules and laws. So we will monitor the topic closely… Of course, we believe that the very discussion is inadmissible,” he said.

Handelsblatt newspaper reported citing government sources that Germany’s Economic Ministry was considering nationalization of local Gazprom’s and Rosneft’s subsidiaries due to the possibility of termination of energy supplies from Russia. Chancellor Olaf Sholz also participates in the discussions, the newspaper reported.

A representative of Germany’s Economic Ministry Beate Baron and deputy spokesperson of Germany’s Federal Government Wolfgang Buechner declined to comment.
